The Hebrew word [[(Hebrew) Shemesh|Shemesh]] may mean ''sun,'' yet it is a double-entendre, for it may also be a contraction for [[Shemites|Shem]] and [[(Hebrew) Ish|ish]], and mean ''people of Shem''. Ever since the days of [[Noah]], it was the descendants of [[Shem (patriarch)|Shem]] who were chosen out to carry forth God's will in the earth, and the offspring were narrowed down from there to focus on the seed of [[Abraham]], and [[Jacob]] after him.
